  • Interactive ICD-11 Stakeholder Profile and Use Case Catalogue Published

We have published the first version of our ICD-11 Interactive Catalogue of Stakeholder Profiles and Use Cases. The catalogue is intended to help us identify the stakeholder groups and use cases that need to be considered when developing our ICD-11 implementation approach, impact assessments and implementation plan. As with all our ICD-11 work, we are adopting a "share early" principle, so that our work can benefit from stakeholder input as early as possible. The catalogue contains a feedback mechanism and our implementation approach page provides links to forms where you can suggest additional stakeholders and use cases. Because we are sharing early, there will likely be a higher than normal number of bugs or errors, but we hope that any annoyance caused by this is outweighed by the benefits of having earlier sight and earlier opportunities to provide feedback. We hope you find the catalogue useful.

  • ICD-11 FAQ Database Launched

Based on responses from the Clinical Coding Community to the ICD-11 questionnaire we ran earlier in the summer, we have created an ICD-11 FAQ Database. Questions have been grouped into categories to make it easier to find those you are most interested in and we would encourage you to browse the database when you have a moment. If you have any questions that are not included in the database, please contact us via information.standards@nhs.net and this will help us develop our web content and other communications materials.

  • ICD-11 Technology Supplier Questionnaire

As part of our ICD-11 preparations, we have created a short questionnaire for Technology Suppliers across England and Wales*.

The questionnaire runs from June 15th to July 8th and should take only 5 minutes to complete. Responses will be analysed by members of the UK Classifications Technical Advisory Committee (UKCTAC) which includes staff from NHS Digital, Digital Health and Care Wales, Public Health Scotland and Digital Health and care Northern Ireland.

We will use your responses to help us develop communications materials, organise engagement events and start to assess the impact of the move from ICD-10 to ICD-11 on the supplier community.

The questionnaire also provides an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you have regarding ICD-11 and we will use these to develop a set of FAQs that will be published on the ICD-11 pages of this Delen website (for the NHS in England) and equivalent locations for the other UK countries.

We hope you can take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire and contribute to our early preparations for ICD-11.

    Thank you.

*Separate questionnaires are being organised by colleagues in Public Health Scotland and Digital Health and Care Northern Ireland for their respective clinical coding communities.

  • ICD-11 Field Trials Round 3 Report Published

    Published: January 2020

    Dear Colleague

The third round of the ICD-11 field trials was conducted between 03 September and 30 November 2018. It used cases based on scenarios taken from the national training materials ICD-10 Exercise Booklet and was hosted on Delen. Participants were provided with ICD-11 familiarisation and training prior to starting the trial cases. We have produced a report on the findings from the first two rounds of field trials. The report details:

    • The improvements that have been made in ICD-11 since the earlier field trials and any issues that still remain
    • Conclusions from the field trials
    • Next steps in the evaluation of ICD-11 and associated materials

You can access the report here - ICD-11 Field Trial Findings Round 3 Report.

    Kind regards

  • ICD-11 Chapter Reviews

    Published: November 2019

    Dear colleague,

NHS Digital hosts the UK WHO-FIC Collaborating Centre and as part of our role we are contributing to the updating of ICD-11 for morbidity coding and would like to offer clinicians and other users of the classification an opportunity to review chapter content and provide feedback to us.

The chapter reviews are part of our development work to assure the content from a UK perspective and to inform a future decision on its adoption and implementation. The World Health Assembly adopted ICD-11 in May 2019 with the expectation that member states will start to report in ICD-11 from January 2022 as detailed in the WHO resolution.  The implementation roadmap for the UK has yet to be determined; no decision has been made on the implementation date of ICD-11 in England.  NHS Digital is undertaking further testing of the latest release and supporting products to understand the impact on implementing ICD-11 and to inform a future decision.

We are inviting clinicians and healthcare professionals to review the content of ICD-11 to identify if there are any:

    • diagnoses or conditions that are missing
    • code descriptions which are ambiguous or incorrect

Our dedicated ICD-11 Chapter Reviews page includes instructions on how to complete the chapter reviews and an overview of the ICD-11 chapters. The overview contains information that you may find useful about each chapter, including what is classified within each chapter; a comparison between ICD-10 and ICD-11 block structure; chapter structure and rationale. At the end of the review there is the opportunity to submit proposed changes.

If there are any clinicians at your organisation who are interested in reviewing ICD-11 content, please forward this information onto them.

The ICD-11 Chapter reviews can be accessed here.

Thank you in advance for your support with this activity.

    Kind regards

  • Please take part in the public consultation on the NHS Digital, Data and Technology Standards Framework

    Published: November 2018

On October 17th, Secretary of State Matt Hancock published his vision for The Future of Healthcare. The vision emphasises the importance of technology and in particular the importance of technical standards that will help the NHS and social care to benefit from the potential of modern technology. The vision is out for consultation and people can provide feedback on it via this questionnaire.

Alongside the vision, we have also published two important documents, which we are keen to get your feedback on. These documents are:

    1. The NHS Digital, Data and Technology Standards Framework

    and

    1. The Clinical Information Standards Specification

You can read and comment upon both documents on our dedicated consultation platform. The documents are in a format which allows you to comment publicly, but anonymously, so that everyone can see what each other is saying. Our hope is that this will help to avoid duplication, while also prompting thoughts and helping themes to emerge. There is also a short questionnaire on the site which allows you to provide feedback privately. The documents cover standards that are very important to the Delen community, including SNOMED CT, dm+d, ICD and OPCS-4 so it is essential that we get as much feedback as possible.

We very much look forward to reading your responses, which will be used to update the documents and inform our plans.
