National Clinical Coding Standards ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Reference Books (2022)

Dear colleague,

The National Clinical Coding Standards ICD-10 and OPCS-4 reference books for use from 1 April 2021 are available for download from the Publications & Resources page on Delen.

The OPCS-4 and ICD-10 Reference Books will be available in the Classifications Browser and will be made available on TRUD for addition into the eVersion shortly. Further communications will be issued when they are available.

As notified in the Terminology and Classifications Delivery Service Newsletter March 2022 we have streamlined our processes and merged the clinical coding standards as follows: 

National Clinical Coding Standards – ICD-10 (reference book) incorporates:

  • Coding Clinic content (diseases and related health problems)
  • COVID-19 standards and guidance

National Clinical Coding Standards – OPCS-4 (reference book) incorporates:

  • Coding Clinic content (interventions and procedures)
  • Chemotherapy Regimen Clinical Coding Standards and Guidance

In addition the following content is available in the ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Classifications Content Changes [2022] document:

  • ICD-10 5th Edition Emergency Use Codes
  • NHS ICD-10 5th Edition Errata
  • W26 Contact with other sharp objects, X34 Victim of earthquake and X59 Exposure to unspecified factor
  • OPCS-4.9 Errata (for use from 1 April 2022)

All previous Coding Clinics and Chemotherapy Regimen Clinical Coding Standards and Guidance will be archived on Delen for historical reference.
