  • Call for ICD-11 Field Trials Third Round Participants

    Published: July 2018

In our role as a WHO Collaborating Centre we have been taking part in the ICD-11 Field Trials. We have undertaken two rounds of trials and will be supporting further testing of the classifications over the next 6-9 months.

We will shortly be conducting a third round of trials. The previous trials have been conducted in the WHO field trial platform using test cases written by WHO. The next round of trials will be based on scenarios taken from the ICD-10 exercise booklet and will be carried out in Delen. These trials will be open to all users.

Training will be made available for all participants in the form of WebEx presentations and documentation. Extracts from the ICD-11 reference guide will also be available.

Participants will be able to complete the trials at their own pace over a longer period of time. We would like participants to undertake as many cases as possible in order for us to continue to assess the improvements that have been made to the Classification in the development of ICD-11 and where developments are still required. This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to test the classification and understand the differences from ICD-10 and the benefits of and improvements in ICD-11.

If you would like to register for the field trials, please submit your details here and we will send you an invite to join the ICD-11 Field Trials Third Round Area.

If you have previously volunteered for or taken part in either of the previous two rounds of field trials, you will automatically be invited to join the third round trial area on Delen during Augusts 2018.

More information on ICD-11 can be found on the ICD-11 page on Delen

  • NHS Digital Classifications Online - User Testing

    Published: July 2018

We are currently developing an online version of OPCS-4 which will replicate the functionality of the NHS Digital Classifications e-Version. We would like a maximum of 20 users of the classification to join a user group to take part in user testing to understand its feasibility and inform potential enhancements. The initial testing will start at the end of August for four weeks. The formal testing should require no more than half a day of your time and you can do this at any time during the testing period. You will be able to use the online version in your day to day work throughout the testing period.

Testers will need a computer with internet access and Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Web Browsers.

If you would like to be involved in the user group, please submit your details by Friday, 3rd August 2018. If you have any questions before deciding whether to volunteer, please contact information.standards@nhs.net.

As we require a maximum of 20 volunteers we will send invites on a “first come first serve” basis. If we are unable to invite you to join the group, due to 20 people already having volunteered, we will let you know.

    Published: July 2018

We have received several queries from the coding service regarding the coding of multiple procedures on different sites where this influences the Healthcare Resource Group (HRG). In order to address these concerns we have collaborated with our colleagues at the National Casemix Office to explore potential solutions. The background and other recommendations can be found on our new dedicated page, HRG related resources.

  • ICD-11 Launch

    Published: July 2018

On 18 June 2018 the World Health Organization released an advance preview of ICD-11 to allow countries to plan how to use the new version, prepare translations, and train health professionals all over the country.

ICD-11 will be presented to the World Health Assembly in May 2019 for adoption by Member States and will come into effect on 01 January 2022.

No decision has been made for the implementation of ICD-11 in England, however NHS Digital plan to undertake further testing of the latest release and supporting products that will inform a future decision.

Further details from WHO can be found below:

These trials will be open to all users and available via Delen by 31 August 2018. It is expected that these will remain live for roughly 3 months.

If you would like to take part, please check back here for updates.

    Proposed future additions

    The support this, we are proposing to add the following information to our Delen site;
