Draft Summary of Core Changes OPCS-4.8 to OPCS-4.9 Consultation
Published: July 2019
On 1 April 2020 the OPCS-4 Classification of Interventions and Procedures – Ninth Revision (OPCS-4.9) will be implemented across the NHS.
To support the NHS and NHS system suppliers with this implementation, the Terminology and Classifications Delivery Service of NHS Digital is undertaking necessary development work which will culminate in the release of OPCS-4 data files, the publication of updated OPCS-4 books and Classifications browser, associated clinical coding standards and training materials.
We have produced a draft summary of the changes between OPCS-4.8 and OPCS-4.9 and invite feedback on these changes from all users of the classification. The summary of changes is available for comment on Delen.
Following consultation and subject to approval by the Data Coordination Board the OPCS-4.9 Information Standard Notice will be published in October 2019 in readiness for NHS implementation on 1 April 2020.
The consultation is open until 19 August 2019.

Complex laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis
Published: July 2019
The endometriosis guidance document has been updated for 2019-20, and will shortly replace the version on the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) website. In the meantime, to ensure the coding community are using the current version, we have made this available in the resource library on Delen. Please note, this document should be used for guidance only. Coders should still refer to the relevant coding standards in the National Clinical Coding Standards reference book and seek clinical input where appropriate.
